My First Client!

I did It! I got my first client!

I did it. I really did it — and damn… just wow. I still can’t quite believe it. I got my first client!

Is it a contractor? No.

But it is a small, family-run business that needed help managing their site. The role included physical labour, customer-facing opportunities, and a little bragging moment to show what I can offer a business.

And honestly? I didn’t expect my first client to come from TikTok — especially not from a non-professional page.

I was just scrolling, their post popped up on my FYP, and I commented:

“It’s a great problem to have — I think I can help!”

A couple of emails back and forth, a few rearranged in-person meetings… and then the day came.

Meeting Them

The day I met the family duo of entrepreneurs.

Was I intimidated? Hell yeah.

Did I turn up way too early? Also hell yeah.

The cleaning crew were already on site, but the people I’d been emailing for two weeks were nowhere to be seen. The cleaners were lovely and told me to sit in the office — but I just couldn’t.

Instead, I found myself in one of the biggest tents I’d ever seen, changing bedsheets and cleaning fridges… until Kay arrived.

Kay — wife, mother, entrepreneur — approached me with the most understandable first question:

“Who are you, and what are you doing in the tent?”

After introducing myself — I’m Theano, but you can call me Nano. I’m here for the meeting. I got here way too early, so I thought I’d help — you could tell she was shocked that I’d taken that step.

Little did she know, I was so nervous that if I’d just sat in the office, I probably would’ve made up an excuse to leave.

When It Clicked

After chatting about expectations, walking the site again, and meeting Levi — husband, father, and the other half of the entrepreneurial duo — it was clear.

It was meant to be.

The truth is, I’d never been glamping before. I’d camped once during National Citizen Service… and now here I was, dealing with guests, hen parties, stag dos, and families just wanting a break.

It was truly a blessing that these guys had faith in me enough to invite me back for a trial.

The Trial Shift

That trial shift taught me so much:

• What to wear on a glampsite

• What it actually takes to run the site

• And the most important lesson — one that changed my mindset entirely

The language you use about yourself and your business directly impacts its trajectory, success, and future.

In one single shift, they gave me the most valuable advice I’d received — real, experienced, and honest.

And then they asked for my availability moving forward… because I’d got the gig.

One Final Thought

Here’s a bit of advice: people invest in people.

I approached this opportunity cautiously at first — but that went out the window quickly. They saw me for me, liked what they saw, took the time to understand what I can do and who I am.

I can genuinely say, hand on heart, that working with them has been a pleasure. And it’s made me truly excited — not just for their future, but for mine too.
